Available suitable land for grazing is 13,387.29 Hectares that are located in 3 villages namely Lungongole (11,157 Ha.,Kikwawila (1,585.19 Ha.) and Ihanga (645.1 Ha). The main livestock kept are; 11,708 cattle, 824 goat, 1,308 sheep, 9037 pig, 24,215 chicken, 134 Guine fowl and 411 Qual. Fishing activities is done in Kilombero River and in fish ponds established in different areas.
There are three production systems practiced namely free range system, semi intensive and Intensive system. The most practiced is free range and semi intensive system. The free range system is used mostly by farmers who keep locally (communal grazing) and they keep local breeds.
Livestock market
Ifakara is a major market for livestock and livestock products. There is only one market for cattle which is located at Michenga village, not yet full operating due to lack of water trough. For the case of poultry product the demand is high compared to supply where products like eggs are imported from other regions like Iringa and Njombe.
The indigenous livestock is of low genetic potential in production. Besides these livestock have high resistance to diseases and drought and they produce good quality meat, milk and eggs although in low Quantities
